Filter videos by length

Paladin Kids Weekly Newsletter #10

Joel and Gary here, welcome to week 10! Hope everyone and their little ones had a great week. 😃

🆕 You can now filter by video length!

The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) has a set of guidelines and recommendations for screen time for parents with young children.

One particularly relevant guideline is:

For children 2-5, limit non-educational screen time to about 1 hour per weekday and 3 hours on the weekend days.

Also, we all know how easy it is to get into Youtube rabbit holes by watching one recommended video after the next. But did you know you can get into that same rabbit hole just watching one 45-minute video?

Lastly, it is well studied that short-form video content (TikTok, IG Reels, YT Stories) indirectly negatively affects children's learning motivation and attention span (Exhibit A, Exhibit B, Exhibit C).

That's why this week, we built a way for you to filter videos by length! You can now specify a minimum and/or maximum video length, anything out-of-bounds gets filtered out.

  1. Prevent your kids from getting into any rabbit holes by limiting video length to 10 or 15 minutes max.
  2. Lower risk of developing ADHD by minimizing ultra-short videos (minimum 5mins)
